Approximate costs of garage doors

Kategorie

A garage door is a component that is used several times a day. It should be safe, convenient and functional. The range of options will be the main criterion, but it should be remembered that this significantly increases the price.

How to design a garage?

When constructing a building, it is important to consider the size, width, height and depth of the garage in order to be able to choose the right type of door. We also need to decide whether it will be a single or double door, and if it is a double door, whether it will be divided by a post or be a single unit. A single gate makes it much easier to manoeuvre a car. A single-gate system loses much less heat than a two-gate system, provided that the gate is closed when not in use. A single gate is also much cheaper; a two-gate system requires the purchase of additional rails and a drive. Installation will also be much more expensive.

Two doors open less quickly than one because the door leaves are lighter. This also makes them easier to install and reduces the risk of bending and deformation.

Types of garage doors

The cost of the door is also increased by the type of door chosen. Let’s analyse how it looks for individual models:

  • Up-and-over door – low price, simple design and easy installation. Most often made of steel and aluminium, it is very durable. The price threshold for this door, measuring 2500 x 2250 mm, starts at PLN 700 (uninsulated). The insulated version can cost up to 2000 PLN.
  • Overhead sectional door – made of sections that move up and down on guides. Most often made of galvanised steel, which is covered with sheet steel. It is finished with powder paint or veneer made of wood, plastic or aluminium. Depending on the use of insulation, the prices for this gate range from 1500 PLN to 2500 PLN. Side sectional door – technically, it works the same as the upper one, but the direction of folding is sideways. The elements forming the curtain are positioned vertically. Thanks to the specific positioning of the profiles, in the case of this gate, it is possible to enter the room even before the gate is fully opened. The cost of this fairly modern solution is around PLN 4,000-6,000.
  • Roller shutter – increasingly common in Poland. Technologically, it moves similarly to a window blind. Made of steel or aluminium, this gate opens by retracting into a cassette. It can be mounted indoors or outdoors. The price of this type of gate has dropped significantly, although it used to be the most expensive. Currently, it costs between 1700 PLN and 2000-3000 PLN.
  • Swing gate – very popular in the past. The leaves spread out to the sides, it takes up a lot of space, and it can be difficult to use when it snows. The cost is about 1800-2000 PLN.

Additional factors affecting the price of a garage door

The higher cost of a garage door is related to its thermal insulation parameters. An insulated door is much more expensive, and the price is determined by the type and thickness of the insulation. This has a significant impact on whether the garage will be warm (especially if it is heated) or whether heat will escape, exposing the user to increased heating costs – which will escape anyway.

Burglary protection will also increase the price of the door. Reinforced profiles, a rotary handle or an electromagnetic brake on the actuator can definitely discourage a potential burglar.

Another cost to be incurred is the method of controlling the gate. The more convenient the opening method, the higher the price. Power-operated garage doors are much more difficult to break into. Ultimately, the colour of the door matches the façade and the overall shape of the house.
