Single-frame windows with a non-opening frame are most commonly used in modern single-family homes. They are usually filled with a package of two or three insulating glass units separated by a spacer frame.

Each window consists of several specific elements that form a coherent structure:

– window profiles – frame profile, sash profile, mullion profile and glazing bead

– insulating glass units

– peripheral fittings

– glazing, rebate, centre and flat seals

These are the basics without which no window can be made. But in addition to these elements, customers can also choose from a range of window accessories that can fulfil additional expectations and needs, increase safety, the warmth of the window and the aesthetic value of the entire joinery.

What can you retrofit to a window? – learn about window accessories

The most common accessories that we buy for windows are ventilators. Modern windows are very airtight, which unfortunately does not always work to our advantage. If you decide to set up a laundry room in a room without ventilation grilles, for example, the humidity level in this room will be far too high. In this case, you can install air inlets on the window frame, and this can also be done on existing windows, although the best solution is to buy a window that comes with this accessory pre-installed.

Other window accessories include lockable handles to increase the safety of small children at home or handles with an external grip for balcony windows to make it easier to get inside. A modern solution is hidden window hinges, which significantly improve the aesthetics of the window frame, especially today when we are giving up on net curtains or curtains. It is also worth equipping windows with a warm frame instead of a regular aluminium one. For a small cost, we gain higher thermal insulation, reduce the formation of steam and mould inside the window, and also obtain a consistent colour scheme as the warm frame is made in various shades that can be easily matched to the colour of the window frame.

Are window coverings worth investing in?

One example of additional window accessories are external coverings, which are becoming increasingly popular with customers. Although they are not the cheapest, many buyers believe that the awareness of the advantages they bring is worth the investment. Window covers include external roller blinds and external venetian blinds. The former are definitely more popular in Poland, blinds are only gradually becoming more common with the increase in the number of passive houses being built, as this is the solution mainly dedicated to them. Both types of coverings are designed to prevent excessive heat loss in winter and to protect the interior of the house from overheating in summer. They also act as an additional sound barrier and burglar deterrent, and increase the sense of privacy and comfort. They are also an interesting addition to the façade, giving it style. Facade blinds in particular emphasise the modern style of the building.
