Energy-saving PVC windows

Windows made of plastic are the most popular on the market. Their ease of production and other advantages mean that it is estimated that every second window sold is made of plastic.

Advantages of PVC windows

  • Economical – plastic windows are extremely cheap, much cheaper than wooden or aluminium windows. They are also extremely durable and can last up to fifty years! They are very airtight if installed correctly, which reduces heating costs caused by heat loss through windows. Special seals prevent air from entering from the inside and the weather from affecting the outside. The space between the panes, which is about 10-16 mm, is filled with argon or xenon. In addition to thermal insulation, PVC windows are characterised by sound insulation, which prevents excessive sound penetration into rooms.
  • Easy maintenance – the plastic used to make the windows is resistant to sunlight and is also very easy to maintain: it does not rot or become damp, and maintenance consists of cleaning the frames and protecting the fittings. Practically insensitive to weather conditions, plastic windows are resistant to chemical and biological factors, which is a significant advantage for their durability in polluted cities. An important advantage is that they are non-flammable, which increases the fire safety of the entire building.
  • Variety of colours – thanks to the ease of sourcing, plastic windows can be in a variety of colours, not just the white that PVC windows are associated with. Plastic can be decorated with wood-effect veneer, but also coloured in unusual colours: yellow, blue or green. Even after many years, the colour or veneer on the windows can look as good as on the day of installation.
  • Lightweight and durable – plastic windows are extremely lightweight, easy to transport and install, and at the same time extremely durable, difficult to damage mechanically or chemically. They do not warp, mould or go mouldy.

What determines the characteristics of a PVC window?

In addition to technical parameters, windows should look elegant. Therefore, it is important that the handles on the windows and, for example, on the sliding doors leading to the balcony or the entrance door, are similar in appearance to the rest of the joinery to create a coherent visual effect.

The durability of the product depends on its construction. Wide, reinforced frames, high-quality profiles made of strong materials – all these factors contribute to the long and safe use of windows. The way the panes are bonded to the frame and the fittings used are also important – it is worth paying attention to such details before buying to avoid disappointment with the product.

Correct sealing against warm air leakage, but also protection against external factors, protects the metal parts of the window from corrosion. It is important to familiarise yourself with the types of protection to avoid having to replace the window quickly.

Accessories for PVC windows

In winter, a large area heated by the sun’s rays will be beneficial, and additional light will contribute to a sense of well-being. However, it should be noted that the same feature can make the interior temperature unbearable in summer. Therefore, it is a good idea to equip yourself with blinds or curtains.

Windows are easier to break into than doors, so it is good to consider buying anti-burglary products.

Combining all the properties of plastic windows, it turns out that they are one of the more interesting options for a low budget. Wooden or aluminium windows are still more expensive, and their usability and functionality are very similar.
