How do I clean windows properly?

Kategorie

Windows are the showpiece and decoration of every home. They are also the perfect place for various decorations, regardless of the season and holidays we celebrate. Whether it is a beautiful Christmas decoration, an Easter bunny or just a potted plant on the windowsill, they will certainly not look attractive against the background of dirty windows. And although cleaning windows is a real nightmare for many people, it is unfortunately a necessary thing, not only for aesthetic reasons, but also for maintenance and care of their good technical condition, so that they can fulfil their functions and serve us for many long years. There are several important issues and practical ways to clean windows, which we will explain to you. The most important thing is to gather your will and find some time, and our windows will shine.

Homemade cleaning products

In addition to the chemical products available in almost every shop, it is worth taking a look at homemade, environmentally friendly cleaning products, which are just as effective for cleaning, including windows. They can be prepared very quickly and easily, and everyone will certainly find the necessary ingredients at home.

Vinegar. You will find it in every kitchen, but if you need more, you can buy it in any grocery store. It is also much cheaper than typical window cleaner. It effectively removes dirt and is perfect for cleaning the kitchen or bathroom. The only disadvantage is the rather intense smell, which is not to everyone’s taste. To prepare the window cleaning mixture, mix approx. 700 ml of vinegar with 2 l of warm water. Clean the windows with a sponge. Then wipe them dry with a dry cloth, e.g. microfibre, and you’re done!

Lemon juice. I think we can find a lemon in every household and you can make an equally effective window cleaner from its juice. Just mix it with warm water and spread it on the window pane. Wipe with a sponge and a dry cloth. You can also use newspaper, as the lead from the ink restores the windows” luminosity.

Dishwashing liquid. An essential in every household and therefore always at hand. Dissolve a little bit of liquid in hot water, add 1 tablespoon of vinegar and you’re done. Use this mixture to clean the windows with a sponge, rinse with clean water and wipe the pane dry.

Washing soda Ideal for heavy soiling. Mix a cup of soda with 1 litre of warm water. Spread the mixture on the window with a damp cloth and dry with a paper towel.

The weather matters

Christmas is just around the corner, time is running out and the windows are still dirty? Even if we are able to find more time to clean the windows, the weather is not always on our side. In this case, the beautiful and sunny weather outside the window may not be beneficial for us. Unfortunately, the sun is not an ally in the fight for clean windows. High temperatures cause cleaning agents to dry faster and we may not be able to keep up with removing dirt, which in turn causes streaks on the glass. So cleaning windows in sunny weather can be a real chore.

Our work can also quickly go to waste if we start cleaning windows on a rainy day. So before we plan such a cleaning, it is better to check the weather, so that hard work does not turn out to be pointless.

Window cleaning step by step

And although window cleaning seems very simple at first glance, in practice it is quite hard work, especially if there are a lot of windows in a house or flat. To make the job easier, you need to remember a few important things. First of all, you should plan the cleaning and allow a little more time for it. Of course, you should take the weather into account and not clean the windows on warm and sunny or rainy days. You should get some window cleaner or make your own mixture using vinegar, lemon juice or washing-up liquid. You will also need a sponge and dry cloths (e.g. microfibre) or paper towels. It is best to start cleaning windows by washing the frame, then the window sash and finally the windowpane. If you start with the windowpane, your work will be in vain and you will have to clean the windowpane again after washing the frame.

As you can see, there are many ways to effectively clean windows. If you prepare well, it can be a quick, easy and, in some cases, even a pleasant job. It is worth testing each method and choosing the best one for you, tailored to your needs and requirements.
