Sliding balcony or terrace doors are very popular, they do not take up too much space, they look elegant and aesthetically pleasing, which is why they often appear in the design of modern rooms. They are most commonly found in living rooms and lounges with access to a terrace, balcony or garden.

The power of space

Thanks to the sliding system, the glazing used can be very large, which is ideal for those who want a large usable space that is not limited in any way and great interior lighting. Large, transparent panes allow you to enjoy the view outside in all conditions, and when it’s warm, you can quickly find yourself in the fresh air. They also help to ventilate rooms thoroughly – quickly and effectively.

The most common sliding window systems are HST and PSK. Thanks to the technology used, balcony doors can be much wider than with side-hung windows. This gives you more room to move and lets more light into the room.

HST windows

In the HST system , the sashes are mounted on separate guides, and the mobile element covers the fixed part when opening. The advantages of this type of window include: a sash width of up to 3 m, a passage width of up to 2.9 m, a variety of designs (2- or 4-panelled), and a low threshold for easy movement.

The windows have a special type of hardware that guarantees the ability to move the elements relative to each other without the slightest resistance and with outstanding lightness. Thanks to this, even children can move heavy doors. When installed correctly, which is crucial for this system, they guarantee effective and trouble-free operation for a long time. They are very rarely complained about to the manufacturer, although their cost is quite high.

They have a special handle that allows you to lower it anywhere, giving you the option to ventilate the room. They can be installed in such a way that the threshold is hidden in the floor. This is a safe solution for places where children, the elderly and disabled people move around. Doors of this type allow glazing in the corners of rooms, which allows for maximum daylight.

PSK windows

PSK windows work a little differently – first, they tilt and slide, then they move along a rail at the bottom of the frame. This system is very easy to operate, despite the large weight and dimensions of the windows. The guides are located at the top and bottom, which means they cannot be hidden in the floor and a low threshold cannot be used.

The PSK system can also be opened inwards, which makes it possible to open the entire opening. The price is affordable and the window is extremely tight. Unfortunately, the guides of these windows often get dirty, and handling can be problematic at times. In addition, they are not very aesthetic when viewed from the inside.

This is a very popular sliding window system because of its affordable price. In addition, the doors can be up to 1.6 m wide and can be tilted like traditional windows.

What to choose – PSK or HST?

Large glazing is a modern solution that uses new technologies that are convenient to use. Sliding doors are more practical and comfortable than traditional doors. The choice of sliding door system should be based on your needs: PSK is definitely the best choice because it is less expensive and provides economical protection against heat loss. HST is a more comfortable and practical solution.
