HST doors, also sometimes called HST windows, are a solution that allows for 52 mm thick glazing and an effective drainage system. The stable frame and sash construction with incredible dimensions, as well as a wide range of colours, make it very attractive. What are the main advantages of lift and slide systems and how can they be used in almost any type of building?
HST windows – heavy construction and light operation
The dimensions that HST windows can reach are truly impressive. Most often used as a terrace door, they can have a sash width of up to 650 cm and a weight of 250 kg, and still move freely. During use, we will not feel their weight thanks to the fittings, which do all the work for us. In the case of the HST window, we move the movable sash behind the fixed sash. It can be operated without using force because the sash moves on rollers on a rail hidden in the floor. This technical solution does not allow the window to be tilted in the sense we know from traditional solutions. This is not a major inconvenience, as the tilting effect is achieved by simply stopping the sash in any position and blocking its movement with a handle.
Practicality and comfort
HST windows also have additional advantages. The HST system can be equipped with a remote-controlled drive. This allows opening and closing with a remote control, as well as programming room ventilation sequences. Semi-automatic fittings are very useful for this solution, as they assist in opening and closing. To further increase the comfort of use, the HST system can be equipped with a handle movement assist.
The very low window sill is of great importance, especially for the elderly and people with limited mobility. In the HST system, it is almost flush with the floor, which allows for a smooth transition to the terrace or garden, e.g. with a pram.

More space and light
The undeniable advantage of sliding door solutions is that they save space. Unlike traditional balcony windows that open outwards, the HST system does not require space in front of the window. Sliding windows are also more stable than hinged windows because when opened, the large window sashes are not held on hinges but are supported across their entire width.
The possibility of using large glazed surfaces also allows for a bright living room space filled with natural light.
Thermal insulation and safety
The modern technology used in HST windows ensures that heat loss is minimised. The HST system equipped with modern PVC profiles with the right number and size of internal chambers and modern low-emission triple-glazed units equipped with a warm edge spacer and technologically advanced glass fibre reinforced composite materials filled with foam (HST Prestige threshold), or aluminium reinforcement with a thermal break allows heat transfer coefficients of U=0.72 to be achieved.
On the other hand, the problem of rooms heating up in summer and a reduced sense of privacy can be effectively reduced by using external blinds. Blinds provide additional thermal and acoustic protection, as well as protecting the joinery from the elements.
