Types of revolving windows

Revolving windows are an alternative to traditional windows. A distinction is made between roof windows, vertical revolving windows and Scandinavian revolving windows. Roof windows are a classic feature of attic rooms, giving them a unique atmosphere. They provide the interior with plenty of light while allowing for effective ventilation. Modern models can be equipped with external or internal blinds and mosquito nets to protect against insects.

Window installation matters

It is worth emphasising how important it is to have a professional installation of roof windows, which ensures adequate thermal insulation and allows you to enjoy a warm interior without water stains on the walls and condensation around the window. Pivot windows have long been a part of the roof window range, but recently there has been an increased interest in vertical pivot windows. They can be installed instead of traditional casement windows, especially in places that are difficult to access. The range of pivot windows offered by Domatus.pl includes just such solutions to meet customer expectations. What is the difference between traditional windows and pivot windows?

Side-hung windows open along an axis that runs vertically along the edge of the window frame. In the case of tilt windows, this axis runs along the horizontal edge of the window. Tilt and turn windows have hinges on both the bottom and side edges. Pivot windows usually have the axis in the middle of the frame and the sash can be rotated up to an angle of 180°. Scandinavian pivot windows are a newcomer to the market, mainly produced for the Scandinavian market, although this is slowly changing. The sash opens outwards, vertically to a maximum width of 180°. Why choose pivot windows?

Classic roof windows are an excellent way to illuminate, ventilate and even heat attic rooms due to the angle of sunlight, which is more intense than with ordinary windows. Pitched roof windows can be installed on roofs with a pitch of 15-90 degrees, making them a universal solution for most houses. Especially since there are no restrictions on the type of roofing.

Vertical pivot windows, on the other hand, are suitable for rooms where it would be difficult or impossible to fully open a traditional window. In the kitchen, this could be a tap in the sink or cupboards that have been pulled out, and in the bathroom, it could be a large shower cubicle or a wall-mounted ladder radiator. In these cases, a vertical pivot window would be the perfect solution.

Disadvantages of roof windows

Vertical pivot windows basically have the same properties as traditional windows, so it is difficult to talk about disadvantages specific to this type of window. Opponents of roof windows, on the other hand, mention several disadvantages that result from their non-standard position. The main disadvantage of roof windows is that they are difficult to clean, even with a wide opening angle. The position in which roof windows have to be cleaned is uncomfortable for many. Another important argument is that rooms with a roof window get too hot, as the angle of the sunlight can make it too warm inside in summer. External blinds are a solution to this problem, but some people consider their cost to be another disadvantage of roof windows.
