Roman blinds and their secrets

Kategorie

Windows in every house fulfil several important functions. First of all, they are a source of daylight and room lighting. But they are also a part of the architecture itself, which gives us many possibilities when it comes to interior design. From beautiful curtains and drapes to small window decorations. However, many people forgo traditional window decorations and only install blinds or roller blinds. In some cases, roller blinds can also be combined with curtains or drapes, but there are also some that look elegant on their own. A perfect example would be Roman blinds, where the fabric plays the most important role and has a significant impact on the interior design. Roman blinds are not only functional but also, thanks to the fact that they are made of various fabrics, they are perfect for decorating any interior.

Advantages of Roman blinds

Roman blinds are a very elegant window decoration that also function as sun protection. Its chain or electric mechanism makes the fabric roll up and pull up, creating eye-catching folds that can be a tasteful finish to any interior. Roman blinds have many advantages that have made them so popular in recent times. Here are a few of them.

First of all, Roman blinds are practical. They combine the functionality of regular blinds with the decorative role of curtains. Importantly, they are very easy to install and use. They are based on a mechanism that allows the fabric to be raised and lowered smoothly and conveniently, so that you can achieve perfectly arranged folds without any additional creasing. Roman blinds also have a built-in self-locking mechanism that allows you to adjust the height of the blind. Another advantage of Roman blinds is that they are easy to clean. The fabric of the Roman blinds is usually attached to the fastening system with Velcro. This makes it easy to remove the fabric and just as easy to attach it again after cleaning. After removing the fabric, remove the roller blind’s stiffeners and wash it in the washing machine without any problems.

Roman blinds are not only functional but also very aesthetic. Blind manufacturers offer a wide range of fabrics, giving us a huge range of design options. They are perfect for any interior, regardless of its design style, and most importantly, Roman blinds do not take up much space around the window, which is especially important in small rooms.

Types of Roman blinds

As we know, Roman blinds are very popular, mainly because they are available in many designs and made of various fabrics. This allows us to choose the perfect blind for any interior. And although the choice of material is up to us, it is worth remembering that there are several types of Roman blinds, which differ in the way they are installed or the mechanism. We divide roller blinds into:

Roman blinds with a simple and classic flounce. Available with a cord and bead mechanism. When rolled up, the fabric will be 25-35cm high. It is worth taking this into account when deciding on the installation location so that the roller blind does not interfere with opening windows and balcony doors. The lower part is a free-hanging valance. These types of roller blinds will perfectly suit modern and minimalist interiors as well as those in the Scandinavian style.

Roman blinds without a valance. They are also based on a cord or bead mechanism. Their lower part is finished with a weight hidden in the fabric without additional frills. They will perfectly fit into any interior, especially a bedroom or children’s room, where they will be perfect for darkening the room.

Roman blinds with voile curtain. They have a cord mechanism that allows you to raise and lower the main fabric on one side and the voile curtain on the other. They are the perfect combination of a roller blind and a decorative curtain.

Roman blinds on a curtain rail. They do not have a self-locking mechanism, therefore they are retrofitted with a string that is wrapped around a previously attached ring. They can be used as curtains or window decorations. They look great on their own, but thanks to curtain rods, they can also be used in combination with curtains.

Roman voile blinds. Available with a curtain rail or with a cord or bead mechanism. They are a window decoration that is a great alternative to traditional curtains. Thanks to the translucent fabric, they let a lot of light into the room, creating a cosy atmosphere. Voile blinds can also be combined with traditional Roman blinds.

And for those who like eye-catching and interesting finishes, there are also roman blinds with pom-poms, tassels or decorative lace. Also available with a cord or bead system, as with Roman blinds with a flounce, or with a cord mechanism on an aluminium rail.
