The terrace is a place to rest after a hard day’s work or a place for family gatherings. A cosily furnished terrace will ensure relaxation even on cold evenings. Therefore, we should find comfortable terrace furniture, a table and various decorations to create a warm atmosphere. One of the elements of the terrace is the door, which will have an impact on the comfort of using the terrace. We can choose between opening or sliding doors – so it is worth considering which one will work best in our case.

Functions of terrace doors

When building a house, it is important to focus on practical solutions and familiarise yourself with the technical parameters of patio doors. One of the functions of the door is watertightness, which is represented in the form of 10 classes. In Poland, it is best to buy doors with a class not lower than 4. The doors should also be windproof, so pay attention to the layout of the area. The heat transfer coefficient is also important, as it ensures that the heat stays in the house. Patio doors should allow you to comfortably access the terrace and functionally connect it to the room. We can choose between sliding or hinged doors, and it is worth considering the advantages and disadvantages of each solution.

Sliding doors: characteristics

Sliding doors are an extremely practical solution. They save a lot of space in the room and are very aesthetically pleasing. Manufacturers offer wall-mounted and cassette systems.

Wall systems are mounted directly on the wall. A guide rail with a sliding mechanism is placed on top. The door then moves in a straight line along the wall. Wall systems are extremely easy to install and only basic tools are required. However, no furniture can be placed next to the wall, as it could interfere with the system.

The second type of sliding door is a model that is hidden in the wall. Special boxes are used for installation, which are placed inside the wall. The box can also be installed on the wall in a special recess, which will result in a reduction of the room’s size. However, this solution has many advantages, including, above all, high aesthetic value, i.e. complete concealment of the door leaf. In addition to the sliding door, various types of furniture or decorations can be placed that will not interfere with the door’s operation.

Hinged doors

Patio doors are one of the cheapest and most popular solutions. Depending on the size of the entrance to the terrace, we can choose single-leaf or double-leaf models. Double-leaf models will provide comfort and more light. In most models, both leaves are equipped with a handle, which ensures high comfort of use. When deciding on an opening door, we must be aware that they take up a lot of space. We can choose an opening door with decorative muntins, which will fit perfectly into various interiors.

When planning to build or renovate a house, we must first think about our needs. A well-fitting patio door will last for many years.
