Everyone wants to feel safe in their own home. It is worth mentioning that one of the factors ensuring safety is the window joinery. Police statistics clearly show that flats on the ground or first floor are often broken into through windows or balcony doors. You can protect yourself against burglars by choosing burglar-proof windows, which are manufactured according to strict standards.
The quality and quantity of security features used in windows can vary. When buying windows, you should therefore pay attention to the European resistance classes RC. Of course, it is important to remember that there are no windows that cannot be broken into. The purpose of a burglar-proof window is to make it as difficult as possible to break in and enter the building. A well-designed window can withstand most attacks. The following classes are distinguished: – RC1 means resistance to accidental break-in attempts using physical violence, e.g. kicking, pushing with the shoulder or pulling out. – RC2 is resistance to break-in attempts using simple tools such as a wedge, pliers or screwdriver to break the window. This class uses special P4A glass.
– A higher class than RC2 is resistance to burglary with the use of tools such as crowbars and pliers. These windows contain four layers of anti-burglary film.
A popular method of breaking in is the string method. With the window open, all you need to do is to pull the string through the crack and open the window. A handle with a key is the solution. It allows you to block the handle’s turning mechanism. An anti-drill insert is then placed in the fitting. The keyed handle will make it less likely for children to open the window.
One of the elements of burglar-proof windows is the appropriate glass panes. Double glazing reinforced with four layers of PVB anti-burglary film is installed in the windows. The more layers of film and glass, the more burglar-resistant the windows are. Even if the glass breaks, the pieces will not scatter because they are held in place by the layers of film. The use of burglar-proof film not only protects against burglars, but also increases safety in children’s rooms, for example.
Many burglars try to lever the entire fitting out of the frame and thus gain access to the flat or house. Burglar-proof catches are installed on the window fittings and screwed to the steel reinforcement. Special pins are also used, which are placed around the entire circumference of the fitting. The pins must interlock and thus prevent the window frame from being pried open. An alarm can be installed in the window fitting that sends information to a security agency. We can install motion sensors that will react to attempts to drill the fitting or move the handle. The sensors are extremely small, so they are difficult to notice and bypass. A security window must be installed correctly to fulfil its purpose. Experienced companies are familiar with all the specific procedures for installing such windows. Only a correctly installed window can be called a security window. Read also:Resistance classes RC
